Having the right salary in place is so important

So much has changed over the past 3 years, one is the wages for Chefs. There has been a big move away from service charge being a core part to basic salary. Are you paying current market rates?

Commis Chefs £23,000 -£26,000.

Demi Chef de partie £26,000 – £29,000

Prep Chef, £28,000 – £30,000

Chef de partie, £30,000 – £36,000

Junior sous chef  £36,000 – £39,000

Sous Chef £39,000 – £45,000

Head Chef £43,000 – £65,000

 

England (outside of London)

Commis Chefs £21,500 -£23,000.

Demi Chef de partie £22,000 – £24,000

Chef de partie, £26,000 – £29,000

Junior sous chef  £30,000 – £32,000

Sous Chef £31,000 – £36,000

Head Chef £37,000 – £50,000

 

Other perks

Service charge – this is always in addition to basic salary however is currently lower then basic, as the drive has been towards basic in recent years

Live in – if you can offer this, normally live in charges are around the £40-70 mark

 

Hours

England (outside london). The average is about 45hrs for the contract with paid overtime

London. The average is 48 hrs with paid overtime

 

Why is it really important to pay market rates?  If you under offer, the chance is you will get chefs moving on. It is so important to offer market rates to fill your vacancies. These rates are based on the average salaries clients are telling us they are paying in February 2023
