News & Insights: wage trends 2024
Logistics: Transport and freight forwarding sectorAs we look at the trends for salary over the past 6 months and looking at 2024 brackets, this year we also must remember the changes to the living wage rates. These are going up alot this year, depending on the hours, it could mean some roles might need higher base salaries if the hours are 48 hours and not 40 hours. our wage review is based on companies who do 38-42hrs. The national Living wage and living wage is going up in April 2024.
Average wage within this sector towards the end of 2023
here is a guide based on companies within the UK during Q4 of 2023. This is based on standard contracts, any contracts that offer hybrid or remote are often slightly lower.
- Freight Administrator £22,000 – £24,000
- Ocean export clerk £24,000 – £26,000
- Air export/import clerk £25,000 – £27,000
- Freight forwarder (ocean) £28,000 – £32,000
- Senior freight forwarder (ocean, 5yrs) £32,000 – £35,000
- Freight forwarder (niche market) £34,000 – £36,000
- Freight forwarder (air) £30,000 – £32,000
- Freight forwarder (air – out of hours) £31,000-£34,000
- Freight forwarder (road) £26,000 – £29,000
- Freight forwarder (ocean and air) £29,000-£34,000
- Freight forwarder (full end to end inc account mgr, customs) £33,000 – £37,000
- Customs clearance coordinator, £30,000 – £33,000
- customs clearance supervisor, £35,000
- Customs clearance team manager / branch manager £45000 – £65000
- Business Development manager, £40,000 – £45,000 + bonus + car
- Transport planner, £28,000 – £30,000 (depends if weekends or not)
- Transport planner (niche) £30,000 – £34,000
- Transport manager, £38,000 – £45,000
National living wage
It was announced, for over 21 year olds, this will now be at £11.44 per hour. from April 2024. This means if someone works (after breaks) From 2024, the higher rate will be available for 21 and 22 yr olds not just over 23 yr olds. please see below the minimum wage you must pay based on the contracted hours.

The rates for under 21 year olds, at the time writing this has not been released yet. This is basic wage excluding bonus
